Abstract

Energy harvesting (energy scavenging or power harvesting) is extracting energy from a system's surroundings and converting it into usable electrical power. The basic technology of the RF Energy Harvesting system consists of a receiving Antenna, impedance matching network, and voltage multiplier. This study presents a 60 × 60 mm2 dual-band circular antenna for RF energy harvesting applications in the Internet of Things. The dual-band antenna operates over 5.6 GHz (Wi-Fi and Wireless local area network (WLAN)), and 9.2 GHz (X-communication band), with acceptable simulated efficiency of 85% and 88%, respectively. The antenna's feed will be realized via a microstrip line. The dielectric material utilized is Rogers 4003C substrate, which has a thickness of 1.524 mm. This selection of substrate guarantees economy without compromising the intended functionality of the antenna. The simulation program CST is used to obtain the antenna design parameters and the simulated outcomes. For the two resonant frequencies, the obtained gain is 4.29 dBi and 5.22 dBi, respectively. The VSWR of the antenna was less than 1.2. The simulated and measurement results are in good match, and the desired bandwidths of 5.54–5.77 GHz and 9.1–9.34 GHz are achieved.
